“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.”
Proverbs 16:18
Sadly, many who profess to love and follow God and the Bible, frequently violate the first two of the Ten Commandments. Rather than adhering to the foundational commandments of Scripture, they often, because of ignorance & bad teaching, lean on their own understanding and keep family/religious traditions—over following simple Scriptural instructions. Just as in the days of our ancestors, idolatry continues to corrupt hearts and minds worldwide today.
When we think of idolatry and paganism, non-Christian religions are likely the first to come to mind. However, idolatrous practices exist in every religion—including various branches of Christianity. But to put this into perspective, let’s first examine some of the tallest pagan idols in the world. Alright, let’s get into it:
Did y’all see those idols? Can you believe it? The height, weight, and costs of those idols??? And once again, idolatrous practices are not confined to non-Christian religions. Sadly, many Christian churches, along with their various doctrines, have led their followers astray, promoting the creation, veneration, and worship of images and likenesses of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph—directly violating the Second Commandment—paganism & idolatry.
Just as we examined and shined the light on the pagan idols of non-Christian religions in that video above, let’s now take a look at some of the world’s tallest pagan idols of Christianity namely: Jesus idols. Note: these are not merely statues, as they are often called—they are idols—idols that are worshiped, prayed to, and venerated by millions of people each year.
Yes indeed, Roman Catholicism has led many people astray through the idolatry of the crucifix. Likewise, non-Catholic branches of Christianity—including Greek/Eastern Orthodoxy and Protestantism—promote their own form of cross idolatry by venerating the “empty cross” in place of the crucifix.
Most of my words above consist of direct excerpts from this blog, so ensure that you examine this:
“Little children, keep yourselves from idols.”
1 John 5:21 ESV
“To whom then will you liken God (Elohim), or what likeness compare with Him? An idol! A craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith overlays it with gold and casts for it silver chains. He who is too impoverished for an offering chooses wood that will not rot; he seeks out a skillful craftsman to set up an idol that will not move. Do you not know? Do you not hear? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood from the foundations of the earth?”
Isaiah 40:18-21 ESV
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God (YAH) is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Therefore, my beloved, FLEE from IDOLATRY.”
1 Corinthians 10:13-14 ESV
“Their land is full of idols; they bow down to the work of their hands, to what their fingers have made. So mankind is brought low, and man is humbled— do not forgive them! Go into the rocks and hide in the dust from the terror of The Lord (YAH) and the splendor of His majesty. The proud look of man will be humbled, and the loftiness of men brought low; YAH alone will be exalted in that day. For the Day of YAH of Hosts (Armies) will come against all the proud and lofty, against all that is exalted— it will be humbled— So the pride of man will be brought low, and the loftiness of men will be humbled; YAH alone will be exalted in that day, AND the idols will vanish completely. Men will flee to caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, away from the terror of YAH and from the splendor of His majesty, when He rises to shake the earth (earthquake). In that day men will cast away to the moles and bats their idols of silver and gold— the idols they made to worship. They will flee to caverns in the rocks and crevices in the cliffs, away from the terror of YAH and from the splendor of His majesty, when He rises to shake the earth.”
Isaiah 2:8-12, 17-21“You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make for yourself an idol in the form of anything in the heavens above, on the earth below, or in the waters beneath. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God (YAH your Elohim), am a jealous Elohim, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on their children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate (turn from & disobey) Me, but showing loving devotion to a thousand generations of those who love Me and keep My commandments.”
Exodus 20:3-6 BSB
Until next time, shalom ✌🏾
