After seeing some saddening highlights on the news, about some of the MTV VMA shenanigans this year, it made me think about building on the points from a blog from last year, which was about:
The music industry produces & promotes trash music like never before, as bad as it was a few years ago, it’s worse today, and unfortunately, it will be worse tomorrow; and an increasing number of our people (like addicts), cannot seem to get enough of what is detrimental, dysfunctional, and adversarial to us as a people. More importantly, as I said in the title, “our mainstream music”, our chart-topping hip-hop and R&B is overwhelmingly adversarial to Our Father in Heaven.
And… what else & who else is adversarial?
“And the great dragon was thrown down, the age-old serpent who is called the devil and SATAN, he who continually deceives and seduces the entire inhabited world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.”
Revelation 12:9 AMP
What does Satan mean again? That’s right, Satan means adversary. And who is he adversarial to? YAH (aka God) of course.
So, when we see videos and/or hear people say that: this or that singer or rapper is satanic, and it’s an artist whom we like, we should judge for ourselves, by testing the singer or rapper by their fruit. If we find that their music & lyrics bear the signs of unrighteous fruit according to Scripture, then we should turn away from it. We must each judge righteously.
We don’t judge based on how we feel or our own opinion. No, we judge the fruit.
And before we judge, we must be able to identify righteous fruit from unrighteous fruit. So, how do we identify the fruit which people bear, as either being adversarial to our Father in Heaven (anti-YAH) or fruit which pleases our Father (pro-YAH)? Let us look at this passage for some answers:
“But I say, walk habitually in The [Holy] Spirit [seek Him and be responsive to His guidance], and then you will certainly not carry out the desire of the sinful nature [which responds impulsively without regard for God (YAH) and His precepts/Torah]. For the sinful nature has its desire which is opposed to The Spirit, and the [desire of the] Spirit opposes the sinful nature; for these [two, the sinful nature and the Spirit] are in direct opposition to each other [continually in conflict], so that you [as believers] do not [always] do whatever [good things] you want to do. But if you are guided and led by The Spirit, you are not subject to the Law. Now the practices (works) of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these. I warn you beforehand, just as I did previously, that those who practice such things will not inherit The Kingdom of God (YAH). But the fruit of The Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.”
Galatians 5:16-23 AMP
So, we have a standard by which we must judge all things, according to Scripture, and that is The Torah (Instruction from YAH). And Paul gave us both, a simplified list of unfruitful works which are adversarial to YAH, and a list of good fruit. So, let’s look at some of the unfruitful works once again:
“Now the practices (works) of the sinful nature are clearly evident: they are sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality (total irresponsibility, lack of self-control), idolatry, sorcery, hostility, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions [that promote heresies], envy, drunkenness, riotous behavior, and other things like these…”
Galatians 5:19-21 AMP
If we like, share, promote, support, purchase, choose to listen to, dance, rap & sing along with music that promotes things like those of which are listed above, works & practices that are degenerate & dysfunctional, we then work with (and not against), that which is adversarial to YAH, or in other words, that which is Satanic.
We don’t have to be overly concerned with knowing about esoteric symbolism, and secret handshakes & signals when it comes to judging musical artists (along with everyday people’s) words & actions, because what we can all see, we can and should test according to Scripture today. Are today’s favorite artists singing or rapping about things that promote sexual immorality, drunkenness, fighting & killing, etc…? Well, we don’t have to question anything more secretive, we don’t have to wonder about their symbolism or hand signs, we don’t have to wonder if they confess that they sold their souls… No, we can judge them biblically by what they say and do. Is it pro-YAH, pro-Christ/Messiah, or is it anti-YAH, anti-Christ/Messiah?
Now, we most certainly have more and more singers & rappers (and other so-called stars) who will confess to selling their souls, and their praise & worship of Satan/The Adversary, these days. And after they proudly promote satanism in their music, performances, and social media posts, many of them, when accepting awards will say things like “I give all praises to God for this award” or “Thank you God for allowing me to write this song”…😮💨. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you can google or YouTube search for rappers & singers who have proclaimed that they have sold their souls, and for others who publicly praise & worship the devil, as we see in these videos below, and you can find other videos of the same people, and others like them who then give empty thanks & praise to “God” for their music which is adversarial to YAH. (Some of these videos need a Language Warning ⚠️, you don’t have to watch any of them, but here are a few examples):
Confessions & examples like the ones above, make righteous judgment easier, but our individual choice to turn away from sin is really what matters. Do NOT turn your ear away from Torah (YAH’s instruction), instead turn your ear away from sin, turn your ear away from that which is adversarial to YAH!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Ignorance to the truth is being removed more every day, and soon there will be no more excuses for disobedience & sin; there is a difference between being ignorant to the truth, and ignoring the truth. There is a difference between not knowing the truth of YAH vs. disobeying what YAH instructs.
So, let us encourage ourselves and one another, let us seek after that which is truth, that which is good/functional according to YAH, and let us turn away from all that is evil/dysfunctional according to YAH!
It’s time to put trash music where trash belongs. Leave whore music to the whores, since it glorifies whoredom. Gangsta/drill/murder rap is dead, since it glorifies death, so let it die with the dead. It ain’t our music, it ain’t our culture any longer family. Choose YAH & His ways. Choose life. Grow & seek His fruit!

Turning off the radio, and skipping tracks on our old favorite playlists, might seem limiting at first, but it gets easier, and shalom increases. This walk requires us to mature in many ways, as we grow in YAH, how we entertain ourselves, and what we listen to & watch is also part of our maturing process. Our old self, our old desires, our dysfunctional & immature ways must die, as we grow in YAH—HalleluYAH!
In addition to functional, secular music, there is a growing number of high-quality righteous musical artists out there too. No matter what, choose music that isn’t Satanic/adversarial to YAH, pray to find it, seek it out, and turn away from Satan and all his dysfunctional devices today. Let’s close this one out, by reading the fuller passage from Galatians 5 :
“And I say: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not accomplish the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. And these are opposed to each other, so that you do not do what you desire to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under Torah. And the works of the flesh are well-known, which are these: adultery, whoring, uncleanness, indecency, idolatry, drug sorcery, hatred, quarrels, jealousies, fits of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions, envy, murders, drunkenness, wild parties, and the like – of which I forewarn you, even as I also said before, that those who practise such as these shall not inherit the reign of Elohim. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, trustworthiness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no Torah. And those who are of Messiah have impaled the flesh with its passions and the desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
