Ways to Keep the Biblical Holidays: YAH’s Springtime Feasts

HalleluYAH! Many more people are now hearing about and preparing to celebrate The Biblical spring holidays (https://www.etymonline.com/word/holiday)— and no I’m not talking about Easter, I am talking about The Most High YAH’s set-apart (holy) appointed Biblical Springtime Feast Days. Just as YAH’s Falltime Feast Days (https://whatishebrewing.com/2024/10/03/ways-to-keep-the-biblical-holidays-yahs-fall-time-feasts/), teach us not only about the past but also about YAH’s prophetic, future times concerning judgment & restoration, the Spring Feasts reveal the foundation of YAH’s redemption and His continual ability to provide for His children. Again, YAH’s Spring Feasts not only commemorate YAH’s ability to save, protect, and provide for His chosen people in the past, but they also point to the work of The Messiah Yahoshua, as the Lamb of YAH, while also adding to our faith and anticipation of our future, final salvation to come—HalleluYAH!

This will be a brief blog (from me lol, especially compared to my Fall Feast blog), for ease of reading. And since I have other blogs speaking about individual Spring Feast Days, I’ll simply link some of those blogs after the close of this blog.

For those who are new to keeping or even hearing about YAH’s Spring Feasts, or even if you’ve kept the feasts before, consider this as a quick guide to understanding & observing our Heavenly Father’s important Springtime appointments, let us honor & keep our scheduled appointment dates with Him! Alright, let’s get into it:

1. Pesach (Passover) – Deliverance Through the Blood of the Lamb

Date: 14th day of the first Biblical month of the year (Abib/Nisan) – Leviticus 23:4-5

Pesach is the foundation of YAH’s redemption story. It commemorates the night when YAH passed over the homes of the Yisraelites who had applied the blood of a lamb to their doorposts in Egypt as YAH commanded (Exodus 12). Through their act of obedience and faith, YAH delivered His people from bondage, setting them on the path to freedom, as they became His chosen nation.

Ways to Keep It:

Read Exodus chapter 12 (you can read from chapters 1 to 12, but at the very least chapter 12) – Reflect on YAH’s deliverance of Yisrael from Egypt.

Remove leaven (yeast) – In preparation for Unleavened Bread, clean your home of leavened products as a reminder to remove sin and pride from your life (1 Corinthians 5:7-8).

Share a Passover meal – Eat fire-roasted/barbequed lamb, bitter herbs, and unleavened bread, as a memorial deliverance.

Reflect on Yahoshua’s sacrifice – Yahoshua is our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5:7). His blood redeems us from sin and death.

2. Chag HaMatzot (Feast of Unleavened Bread) – Walking in Purity

Date: 15th–21st day of the first month (Abib/Nisan) – Leviticus 23:6-8

Immediately after Pesach begins the Feast of Unleavened Bread. For seven days, no leaven (yeast) is to be eaten or even found in your home. Leaven, during this feast, represents sin and corruption (Luke 12:1), and removing it is a picture of walking in purity before YAH.

Ways to Keep It:

Remove and Keep watch for leaven (the symbol of sin in our lives – Check food labels carefully and avoid bread, pastries, and anything containing yeast; remembering that the greater leaven is the “leaven of sin” in our hearts.

Eat unleavened bread daily (Matthew 6:11), – ensure that you not only refrain from eating leavened bread, but that you do eat unleavened bread each of the 7 days of the feast. This symbolizes sincerity and truth (1 Corinthians 5:8).

Daily reflection – Spend time in prayer and study, focusing on living a set-apart life, free from sin while resisting temptation; remembering that His Word is our daily bread (Matthew‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ).‭‬‬

3. Yom HaBikkurim (First Fruits) – Yahoshua, the First Fruit of the Resurrection

Date: The day after the weekly Shabbat (Sabbath) during The Feast of Unleavened Bread – Leviticus 23:9-14

The Feast of First Fruits celebrates the beginning of the barley harvest and is a picture of Yahoshua’s resurrection and presentation. Just as the first sheaf of the harvest was waved before YAH as an offering, Yahoshua became the first fruit of those raised from the dead (John 20:17, 1 Corinthians 15:20).

Ways to Keep It:

Give thanks and Offer the first fruits of your increase – This can be a first portion of your income for the start of the new Biblical year and/or any first harvest from your garden.

Reflect on Yahoshua’s resurrection – Yahoshua’s resurrection guarantees our future resurrection and eternal life.

Give thanks – Acknowledge YAH’s provision and faithfulness in your life.

4. Shavuot (Feast of Weeks aka “Pentecost”) – The Giving of the Torah and The Spirit

Date: 50 days after First Fruits – Leviticus 23:15-22

Shavuot marks the conclusion of the spring feasts and celebrates 1st – (Exodus 19) the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai and 2nd – (Acts 2) the outpouring of Ruach HaQodesh (The Holy Spirit of YAH). YAH’s Word and His Spirit work together to empower us to live according to His commandments.

Ways to Keep It:

Count the Days – Begin counting 50 days from First Fruits, preparing your heart to receive from YAH.

Read Exodus 19-20 and Acts 2 – Reflect on how YAH’s Word and Spirit equip you to walk in obedience.

Offer a freewill offering – As YAH has blessed you, give an offering of thanksgiving.

Fellowship and celebration – Shavuot is a joyful time; gather with others, share a meal, and celebrate YAH’s goodness.

Why the Spring Feasts Matter

“These are the appointed times of YAH, which you shall proclaim as holy (set-apart) convocations.”

Keeping these feasts is not only a remembrance of what YAH has done but also a rehearsal for what He will complete in the future. Just as the Fall Feasts point to Yahoshua’s return, the Spring Feasts remind us that YAH’s redemptive work through Yahoshua has already begun—and will soon be completed.

Before we conclude, it’s worth noting a parallel between the timing of the Fall Feasts and the Spring Feasts. Just as the 10th day of the 7th month marks Yom Kippur (the Day of Atonement), the 10th day of the 1st month also serves as a day of preparation leading up to the month’s week-long feast. Let’s take a closer look at this important preparation day that ushers in YAH’s Spring Feast season.

The 10th of Abib – The Day of Preparation: Inspection & Selection

Date: 10th day of the first month (Abib/Nisan) – Exodus 12:3-6

Before Pesach, YAH commanded the people of Yisrael to inspect & select an unblemished lamb on the 10th of Abib. This perfect lamb was kept, guarded, and watched over until the 14th, ensuring that it remained without defect and was worthy to be the Pesach lamb. This day holds deep significance, pointing to Yahoshua’s entry into Yerushalayim when He was identified as the perfect Lamb of YAH, examined and found faultless before His sacrifice (John 12:1, 12-13).

How to Keep It:

Read Exodus 12:1-6 and John 12 – Reflect on the significance of selecting a spotless lamb and how it points to Yahoshua’s sinless & sacrificial life.

Focus on preparation – Use this day to prepare physically & spiritually, in your home & heart for the upcoming feasts by examining, removing, and guarding against leaven & sin.

Praise Yahoshua for being the Perfect Lamb – Meditate on how Yahoshua, perfectly and willingly became the Lamb of YAH, fulfilling the shadow picture of salvation—once and for all!

Get/Stay ready for selection – Remember, many are called but few are chosen; so get right, cleanse yourself with the Word of YAH, and stay on guard (Matthew 22;14, Romans 12:1-2)

As we prepare to worship & obey YAH during His feast seasons, let us always remember that our adversary the devil will also be preparing to throw us off the path, so stay on guard especially as you prepare for the feasts. Don’t get prideful and think everything will be smooth sailing. Stay humble and stay alert, because pre-feast times are prime times when the enemy seems to amp up his attacks.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under YAH’s mighty hand, so that in due time He may exalt you. Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. Be sober-minded and alert. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in your faith and in the knowledge that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kinds of suffering.”‭‬‬

‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭9‬

The Spring Feasts point directly to Yahoshua’s work of salvation and redemption. He is our perfect Passover Lamb, The First Fruit of the resurrection, and The One who works with us through YAH’s Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) to guide and empower us—He is the Word of YAH who became flesh and dwelt/pitched His tent among us—HalleluYAH!

So, family, let us celebrate YAH with humility, righteousness, and sincerity—every single day, of course, but most especially during His Feast days, because they are His set-apart appointments that He told us to keep!

“Your boasting is not good. Do you not know that a little leaven works through the whole batch of dough? Get rid of the old leaven, that you may be a new unleavened batch, as you really are. For Christ (Messiah/Mashiach), our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. THEREFORE let us KEEP THE FEAST, not with the old bread, leavened with malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and of truth.”

‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬-‭8‬

Until next time, shalom ✌🏾

Published by What Is Hebrewing

I AM: Hebrew—by blood Israelite—by covenant American—by way of birthright citizenship Awakened—by The Word & Spirit of YAH I blog about things that we often all see around us, things that we see in person, online, or on TV— and I offer functional & Scriptural perspectives on such matters. I believe that Scripture is key to understanding this thing we call life: “ALL Scripture is breathed out by Elohim (God) and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for setting straight, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of Elohim might be fitted, equipped for every good work.” ‭‭Timotiyos Bĕt (2 Timothy)‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭17‬ ‭TS2009‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/316/2ti.3.16-17.TS2009 And that everything we do in life will be judged by The Creator of life, so it's best to understand the conclusion of The Matter: “Let us hear the CONCLUSION OF THE ENTIRE MATTER: FEAR ELOHIM AND GAURD (KEEP) HIS COMMANDS, for this applies to ALL mankind! For Elohim SHALL bring EVERY work into right-ruling (judgment), including ALL that is hidden, whether good or whether evil.” ‭‭Qoheleth (Ecclesiastes)‬ ‭12‬:‭13‬-‭14‬ ‭TS2009‬‬ https://bible.com/bible/316/ecc.12.13-14.TS2009
