As we have entered into the 24-hour time of keeping of Yom Kippur – The Day of Atonement, not only am I thinking about the importance of examining my heart and asking for and receiving The Most High YAH’s atonement and forgiveness; but also, the importance of seeking to extend forgiveness, and shalom to everyone, if it is possible.
So, if there is anyone who has an ought against me, I sincerely ask that you please reach out to me directly. If I have offended, hurt, or wronged you in any way, I would genuinely like the opportunity to hear you, make things right where possible, and get back to a place of shalom in YAH.
And likewise, if there is someone in any of our lives that we have an ought/issue against, may we all be willing to forgive, seek reconciliation, and release the things that keep us from walking in shalom & shalem.
Scripture tells us:
“Repay no one evil for evil. Have regard for good things in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men. Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says YAH. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; If he is thirsty, give him a drink; For in so doing you will heap coals of fire on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” — Romans 12:17-21 NKJV
“Therefore if you bring your gift to the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift.” — Matthew 5:23-24 NKJV
“Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as YAH in Messiah forgave you.” — Ephesians 4:31-32 NKJV
“Pursue shalom with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see The Master: looking carefully lest anyone fall short of the grace of YAH; lest any root of bitterness springing up cause trouble, and by this many become defiled;” — Hebrews 12:14-15 NKJV
Again, as we keep Yom Kippur, may we all, not only seek forgiveness from YAH, but also examine how we treat one another. May we truly humble ourselves where we need to, forgive where we need to, and seek reconciliation where it is possible.
One last time, I implore you, if you have an ought with me, please reach out, email, text, etc… I would much rather have a difficult conversation that leads us back to shalom than allow distance, hurt, misunderstanding, or sin to remain between us.
May YAH search our hearts, lead us in The Way of Righteousness, and help us live in true shalom.
