Shalom, family!
Every few weeks, we see more reports of store closures in cities and food safety recalls, worsening the already critical “food desert” crisis. In response, some of us have started setting aside food supplies—at least enough to last a month or two. If you haven’t begun yet, take action this week by picking up a few extra canned goods the next time you shop. You don’t need to go overboard—just grab a little extra food, water, and supplies each time you visit the store to build up your reserves for a “rainy day.”
But the purpose of this blog isn’t just to encourage you to stock up—it’s more importantly, to urge you, once again, to start gardening & farming and growing & raising some of your own fresh food.
I encourage you… I implore you… I challenge you: plant something by the end of this week! Even if it’s just one pot or any small container, take action. Start with something simple—like lettuce or my personal favorite starter plant, green onions. Just do something—plant and grow some food today!
And if you’re wondering why I recommend green onions, it’s because they’re one of the easiest things to grow. You can simply regrow them from kitchen scraps in water—but there’s also another simple way. Click to see what I mean:
Now, please take a moment to check out and subscribe to some of the videos and channels listed below. Learn what you need, don’t stress about the rest, and just start growing.
You don’t have to be a gardener. You don’t need a “green thumb.” You don’t need a house with land. You don’t even need fancy pots or soil. When I started gardening in 2019, all I had was an empty sour cream container and some leftover diced tomatoes from Taco Tuesday—before I knew it, we had four fruitful tomato plants growing in our dining room window.
So, no excuses! It’s okay if you don’t know how or where to begin. It’s okay if you think its not a priority now… just give it a try.
Check out these videos for ideas, but remember—all you really need is a seed or cutting, a container, some dirt, and water. You’ll learn as you grow… get it? 😂😑 (A lil’ dad joke for you… don’t leave me 🤣)
Let us not forget, remember the lockdown? Remember how we learned just how quickly things could change beyond our control? So, here are some additional things to keep in mind:
Again, don’t forget—we can all save money by regrowing food from our kitchen scraps (or even scraps from friends) after our meals are made:
Lastly, here are some additional quotes & facts to consider:

As we begin to close this out, let us look to Scripture for our instruction. Remember, our Father planted a garden, and mankind was made to garden! Back in Eden, mankind gardened; in the promised land, we gardened; in captive lands (from generations ago until today), we are instructed to garden. And we will have a great garden once again in the Kingdom to come—HalleluYAH!
So family, while we have the time to practice gardening now, let us all get to it—plant something today!
“Then The Lord God (YAH Elohim) planted a garden in Eden, in the East, and there He put the man He had formed.”
Genesis 2:8 GNTD
“A hard-working farmer has plenty to eat. People who waste time WILL always be poor.”
Proverbs 28:19 GNTD
“The Lord (YAH) Almighty, the God (Elohim) of Israel, says to all those people whom He allowed Nebuchadnezzar to take away as prisoners from Jerusalem to Babylonia: ‘Build houses and settle down. Plant gardens and eat what you grow in them.”
Jeremiah 29:4-5 GNTD
“I WILL bring My people back to their land. They WILL rebuild their ruined cities and live there; they WILL plant vineyards and drink the wine; they WILL plant gardens and eat what they grow.”
Amos 9:14 GNTD
Gardening: It’s what we were created to do (Garden of Eden). Gardening is essential to our culture, and it’s time to relearn and return to the basics—our foundational work.
Poultry Farming: I encourage everyone I know to consider raising chickens and/or quail, especially for their eggs. Whether you live in a house or an apartment, you can grow a few plants and raise some of your own food. While chickens may not be an option for apartment living, most apartments allow quail. Below are some videos for you to check out. As you’ll see in your research, there are plenty of other videos and resources available to learn from!
I’ll say this one last time: take action today for a better tomorrow, family. Trust our Father always and do what you can while you can. Grow and raise some food, eat it, be nourished, be blessed, and be thankful! All thanks and praises to The Most High YAH—HalleluYAH! HalleluYAH! HalleluYAH!
Until next time, shalom ✌🏾
~Yahrahn

Yes I put together some plant pot of tomatoes, peppers, strawberries and blueberries. I have them out on my front porch. They were growing well, but because I live in Ohio, the cold weather and morning frost has been really off and unpredictable this year and now the plants aren’t looking so good. Looks like I may have to find a way to bring them inside my house.

Sorry to hear that ach, I pray that you have success whether you have to move them inside or if you’re able leave them out. It’s great to hear that we’re all trying to grow something. Thanks for sharing your ups and downs, hope to hear more ups soon. Shalom shalom

Thank you for this. We’ve got about 2 months of food stored, need some more water. I’ve got seeds to plant a garden this year.
One question comes to mind.
How do we give our first fruits to Yah and the teachers when we have no one close enough to give them too?

HalleluYAH! Outstanding job on the 2 months of food storage, keep up the good work. May Abba YAH bless you & your garden.
Great question, my answer for your consideration is based upon two passages:
Reading from Deuteronomy 14 verses 22 to 29, focusing on the part in verses 24-27 which says: “And if the way be too long for thee, so that thou art not able to carry it; or if the place be too far from thee,… then shalt thou turn it into money, and bind up the money in thine hand, and shalt go unto the place which YAH thy Elohim shall choose: and thou shalt bestow that money for whatsoever thy soul lusteth after, for oxen, or for sheep, or for wine, or for strong drink, or for whatsoever thy soul desireth: and thou shalt eat there before YAH thy Elohim, and thou shalt rejoice, thou, and thine household, and the Levite that is within thy gates; thou shalt not forsake him; for he hath no part nor inheritance with thee.”
And similarly, Deuteronomy 16:10-11, focusing on this part of verse 11:
“… and the Levite that is within thy gates, and the stranger, and the fatherless, and the widow, that are among you…”
So, first things first: #1. We aren’t in the land. #2. We have no way to verify who our Levites & priests are. So we do our best to honor YAH, and to be a blessing to the people YAH told us to bless.
So, as for our teachers & shepherds, we honor them with our giving, as they are doing ministry work, service in a way similar to Levites and deserving of their wage (consider 1 Corinthians 9:13-14). We also honor those who are in need & without, specifically any widows, orphans, and migrants who are amongst us. My family and I are working towards being able to bless all the people groups which YAH mentioned. This year, right before Pesach we fed some homeless people, widows, and fatherless children, for an example. There is an orphanage that I’m seeking to help be a blessing to as well. As for our teachers & shepherds, I have them close to me, but for you and others, because of the distance and for those who do not want to give money, they can consider sending restaurant or grocery store gift cards.
Again, these are some things for your consideration, and as with all things, let us pray, asking our Father to give us direction, discernment, and shalom, as we try our best to obey & please Him in all of our doings, wherever we are.
I offer up the prayer of King Dauid over us all, as he closed out Psalms 19 saying “Let the words of my mouth (our mouths), and the meditation of my heart (our hearts), be acceptable in Thy sight, O YAH, my (our) strength, and my (our) redeemer.” HalleluYAH!
I hope this helps. Todah for the encouragement, comment, and question.
Shalom shalom ach.
FYI — I know you already know some of the verses and context, but I posted extra just in case someone else reads our dialog and has foundational questions.

Thanks for responding Yahrahn. Got plenty of neighbors to give to.
It’s so amazing how such a small seed can produce so much!
